The outreach program of UCG is designed to provide avenues for the church to channel financial resources and programs to people in need, give members opportunities to offer direct service to individuals in need, and participate in actions for peace, justice, and social change.
To do this, there are three outreach committees, Compassion in Action, the Interfaith Hospitality Network, and the Social Justice Committee. They are described in their pages on this website. See the column on the left.
This month we begin our “Food First” food drive to support Gainesville Community Ministries. On the first Sunday of every month, we invite and encourage you to bring non-perishable food items to worship on Sunday morning. We believe that by doing regularly scheduled food drives, GCM will have a better, more consistent offerings for their shelves and clients.
Our combined Outreach Committees of Social Justice, IHN and CIA thank you for supporting our Food 4 Kids program. Because of your generosity we raised over $13,000 to help send children from Duval Elementary School home with backpacks full of food over the weekend.
On October 16, 23 and 30 UCG will host a project for Rebuilding Together. We will be working together to help repair a home for a Gainesville resident in need. Volunteers are needed! If you are a handy type person, or have never swung a hammer before in your life, we can find a place for you to be of service to others, putting your faith into action. Sign-ups begin September 18th!
