When You Visit UCG

The United Church of Gainesville is located at 1624 NW 5 Ave. Handicap parking is available in a small lot just west of the sanctuary and fellowship hall. Primary parking is in a lot east of the sanctuary. There are two parking places by the lot entrance marked for first time visitors. If they and the other parking places are filled, on street parking is available in the neighborhoods surrounding the church.

Check the home page for worship schedule this Sunday. During the academic year it is usually 9:30 and 11:00.  In the summer it is usually 10:00, but there are exceptions.

The 9:30 service includes a children’s story, after which the elementary age children go to church school. The middle school group meets at 11:00 a.m., and the high school group meets at 12:15. Post high gathers for lunch at 12:15. For more information about these groups, see the links to the left or below.

The entrance to the sanctuary is in the courtyard.  When you arrive, please introduce yourself to one of the greeters and sign our guest book. The greeters will give you information about the church and explain the morning’s schedule. If you are willing, the greeters will introduce you during the service.

On the second Sundays of every other month (September, November, January, March, and May), there is a visitors’ lunch with the pastors and the Board of Membership in the fellowship hall at 12:15. Child care is provided. This is an opportunity to meet the pastors and other church members and ask questions about UCG.

Joining UCG

We welcome new members into the church on special Sundays in the fall, winter, and spring. These dates are announced in the newsletter. If you have signed the guestbook, you will receive an invitation.

Membership involves attending an orientation meeting and being officially welcomed into the church at a Sunday service.  The requirements for membership are acceptance of the Compact of the United Church of Gainesville and a willingness to share in the worship and activities of the church.

Young people are confirmed in the church at age 13-14 in a program called “Aware, Care, Share” every other year in the spring on even years.
