Worship at UCG is always engaging, relevant, artistic, deeply spiritual, and typically, fun. Each spring the ministers take input from the congregation and plan themes for the following year. Then prior to each theme they invite Worship Exploration Teams from the congregation to brainstorm ways to develop services on this theme.
A Lively Arts Coordinator oversees a variety of music that changes from service to service. An adult choir, a children’s choir, youth music, guitarists, The Hogtown Strutters (Dixieland), The Hogtown Pickers (bluegrass), a jazz band, a rock band, vocal ensembles, and instrumental ensembles of all kinds provide music. There is no “contemporary” or “traditional” service. All types and forms of worship blend together, reflecting the theme of that day.
At 9:30 there is always a children’s story, after which the young children leave for their church school. Other than this, the 11:00 service is identical to 9:30.
Visual arts enhance the sanctuary in new ways for each theme. Chairs may be arranged in traditional rows, a U or a circle. Communion is celebrated in some form each month.
Hearing assistance and large print bulletins are available every Sunday.
Members of our youth groups also provide a monthy interactive and spiritually engaging worship service affectionately known as '6:15.' It takes place the last Sunday of most months.
